Born March 11, 1910
Died February 20, 1920
Blessed Jacinta Marto is the youngest of the three children
to whom Our Lady appeared at Fatima, in Portugal.
She was seven years old at the time of the apparitions.
Although she was the youngest of the children, Jacinta seems
in some ways to be the most deeply affected and most understanding
of the meaning of Our Lady's messages. She was very
affected by a vision of Hell shown to her by Our Lady and
from that time on fervently offered her own life and trials
for the salvation of sinners.
Our Blessed Mother told Jacinta that whe would soon die and
that she herself would be there to meet Jacinta when she died
to take her to heaven. Little Jacinta became ill with
bronchial pneumonia and developed tuberculosis. She was just
ten years old when Our Lady kept her promise.
She was beatified, with her brother, Francisco, in 2000. |
