Giovanni de Fiesole (Guido di Pietro) was born in Mugella, near Florence, Italy in 1387.
Died in the Dominican Monastery at Rome in 1455 of natural causes.
Beatified 1982
John da Fiesole entered the Domincan order in 1407, taking the name of Fra Giovanna. He was taught the art of missal illumination and drawing by the monks, and exhibited a ready talent. He was a prolific painter of religious art. The name Fra Angelico was given to him in admiration for his great talent in depicting heavenly themes. |
