Patron Saint of Wales. Welsh royalty, son of King Sant of South Wales and Saint Non, Prince of Keretica (Present day Cardiganshire). Combatted the Pelagian heresy (a heresy of the 5th century which denied both the universality of original sin and the necessity, therefore, of divine grace for its repair) at the Synod of Brevi, in 512. He was said to be so inspired in his preaching at this synod that the dove of the Holy Spirit descended and rested upon his shoulder, hence his patronage of that bird.
Founded 12 monasteries, prescribed an extremely strict Rule for his monks.
Little fact remains of his life, but fancy and myth abound. |
