Saint Albert Chmielowski
Not Currently Memorialized-Roman Calendar
Feast--Albertine Calendar

Born August 20, 1845 at Igoalomia (Aigolonija), Poland
Died December 25th, 1916 at Krakow, Poland Born into a wealthy family. Lost a leg fighting in a political insurrection at age 17. Became a popular and well liked artist in Krakow. His compassion and empathy led him to serve the poor, first by becoming a franciscan tertiary and then by founding the Albertine order (Gray friars) to serve the poor and the homeless. St. Albert also founded an order of sisters of the same name.
St. Albert believed that one of the central tragedies and failing of our age was our refusal to see and serve the suffering poor, preferring to keep them out of sight, and leaving their care to others.

Pray to Saint Albert for the grace of a spirit of service to the needy
Saint Albert should be regarded as a patron of the poor.
