The saint for November 07
Bl Francisco Palau y Quer
OC and OCD Optional Memorial

Blessed Francis Palau y Quer was Born in Aytona, Lerida, on December 29, 1811. He entered the Carmelite Order at the age of 22 in 1832, and was ordained in 1836. The Civil unrest of the time forced him to live in exile away from his community. He was able to return to Spain in 1851,and at that time he founded a school of catechetical teaching at Barcelona--which he referred to as his "school of virtue". The school was suppressed for non-theological reasons and he was again exiled. Blessed Francis lived at El Vedra on the island of Ibiza, where he lived an eremitical life. At the end of this period he founded the Congregations of Carmelite Brothers and Carmelite Sisters (1860-1861). He was renowned as a preacher of popular missions, and for his devotion to Our Blessed Mother. He died at Tarragona on March 20, 1872, and was beatified by Pope John Paul II on April 24, 1980.
